Presenting at Southern Utah Unix User Group (SU3G)

Hi all,

I’d like to make a quick mention of this in case you missed my presentation at UTOSC.  I’ll be doing a similar presentation entitled “What is Utah Open Source?”, tonight at 7pm at the Southern Utah Unix User Group (SU3G).  In addition, I’ll be providing a tutorial on how to setup VSFTPD if there is time.

I’m sure many of you in Utah, Davis, Weber or Salt Lake Counties might think, “heh, I can’t make it!”.  Well that might be true of the past meetings for User Groups.  From now on, Utah Open Source will be working to provide live streaming to any User Group that would like to share their meetings.

Currently, we’re in a testing mode, but you’re welcome to listen live tonight at 7pm.  There will be a link provided at http://herlo.org:8081 which can be streamed to your favorite media player that supports ogg/vorbis.  I use rhythmbox for this, but I know many other players support these live streams as well.

In addition, join the #utos channel on irc.freenode.net if you’d like to ask questions.  Someone will be in irc relaying any questions.  If you aren’t familiar with irc or how to connect, here’s an easy tutorial.

Now there is no excuse to miss this meeting.  If you want to listen, set aside the time, or play the ogg later as it will be available on this site shortly after the presentation.  See you all at 7pm tonight!

Cheers,

Clint Savage

Utah Open Source Conference 2007 - What did you hear?

Recently, we were discussing a certain presentation and I mentioned that “I heard you were a hit!”, to one of the presenters. Now, I wasn’t in that presentation, in fact, I was in very few (unfortunately). But we at Utah Open Source would like to hear what you thought about the conference. What did you hear about a presentation you attended (or didn’t)?

Please tell us by leaving a comment. We’d love to hear from you.

Utah Open Source thanks the community!

Hi everybody,

I am so happy today. So extremely happy. Excited that the Utah Open Source Conference (UTOSC) was such a success! Flattered by the response. Amazed with the presentations and knowledge floating around all weekend long.

But….

Most of all, I am so happy that you loved the conference so much, and want to have another one next year. So we will!

I personally wanted to thank you all for coming to the conference. Thank you for participating and proving what I already believed. That Utah Open Source is alive and well. Its truly amazing to see how many people came and how many enjoyed themselves. I felt so honored to have organized the event.

In addition to the thank you, I just wanted to share one experience with all of you. This experience happened on Saturday during the morning keynotes (before Tim Riker was to speak). Jayce^ asked who would like to come to the conference next year, every hand was raised! At that moment, I knew, absolutely knew, this was what I wanted to accomplish. I had chills for over 5 minutes after that moment. Thank you Utah for this opportunity.

I hope that others share their thoughts and feelings about the conference. We’d like to hear what we did well and what we didn’t do so well. We think there is much to improve upon and are already planning for next year’s conference. We realize we set the bar pretty high, so we’ll have to double our efforts!

Watch this blog or join our mailing list for announcements and news about what Utah Open Source will be doing in the very near future.

Cheers,

Disclaimer:
Novell has been great to work with and is doing some amazing things for the conference. There will be areas which you will not be able to take pictures, but anything at the conference all should be fine. Be respectful and smart as we’re all guests on Novell’s campus during the conference.
